My name is Jessica. I am a junior interning at the St. Johns Main Library Branch for the Veteran’s History Project. St. Johns County Library System has partnered with Haven Hospice to conduct a series of interviews with local veterans. The interviews are saved on audio discs and catalogued within the library’s own system, as well as being sent off to the Veterans History Project’s archives. The Veterans History Project, which we call the VHP, is organized by the Library of Congress.  The Library of Congress encourages veterans to share their personal experiences so that future generations may hear their stories.

The library relies on the help of volunteers to keep the Veterans History Project running in St Johns County. Over the past year, the library has been backlogged with interview paperwork. I have been helping to organize the files and prepare them for the Library of Congress. The Library of Congress has specific requirements to ensure that the interviews are preserved in the best possible conditions. I have indexed several interviews and produced cases for each interview. I am currently working on creating promotional flyers, and in the upcoming week I will start to conduct interviews of my own.
